BATTEN EXTENDERS
WHAT THE HOMEOWNER SHOULD CHECK BEFORE,
DURING AND AFTER THE INSTALLATION OF THEIR TILE ROOF
#1
Hire only a quality licensed and insured contractor to install your roof. You
should check with your local Contractors Licensing Agency to check the license and be sure
the contractor can provide proof of insurance.
#2
Check to see that the contractor closes the valleys. That is, be
sure there is no gap between tiles that can cause leaf and needle build up. When
this happens there is a chance of water pushing debris up and under the tiles. A
CLOSED Valley with the tiles evenly supported with BATTEN EXTENDERS provides the spacing
needed to flush the valley metal clean with each rain.

#3
Verify that all flashing areas are thoroughly cleaned before laying in the
tiles . All sawdust, nails, wood, mortar and adhesives should be removed. Most
importantly be sure that the leveling of the tile in valley areas is going to be with
BATTEN EXTENDERS. Not with, crushed cans, broken tiles or bits of wood. The
use of other than BATTEN EXTENDERS can lead to obstructions in water flow that can
and will eventually overflow the metal flashing leading to roof damage.
#4
Make sure the wooden battens stop at the edge of metal flashing crimp. |
